The Story:

The 1903 Wright Flyer I became the first aircraft to successfully make sustained, controlled powered flights on December 17, 1903. On that date, the Wrights made four flights, the longest lasting 59 seconds and covering 852 feet (260 meters). After the last flight it was wrecked by a gust of wind and never flew again.

This is not just a replica or static model. We don't just build them, we conducted an expedition in experimental archaeology, test-flying each aircraft and repeating the flight experiments of the Wright brothers. In doing so, we gained a deep, personal understanding of the events that led up to the construction of the 1903 Wright Flyer I replica.
